ok thanks a lot because I know now

So does github have RC1 daily updates? I thought it was called beta4 there?

I have to admit I'm pretty hopeless in knowing how to use GitHub.

I have a test forum running beta4 - what's the upgrade process?

Feel free to answer by PM or new topic mate whatever suits best. I appreciate your help.

Github version is RC1. It goes through daily changes most days. I watch it carefully to know when to update. It is a bit hard to build a package from GH. So to make it easier for people they made this:

The upgrade process is no different. Use the link I posted and download the upgrade package. Overwrite what is on the server and run upgrade.php. All should be fine after that. Please, do not do this on a live site until you know what is going on at GH. Right now I have not updated cause there are issues with smiles and a lot of work is going into them right now so I figure I will wait until that is done. Use a test site before going ahead with a live site.

Thanks mate.  Yeah I do have a test site I'll use.
Having said that it has database connection issues at the minute so I'll have to sort that out first !  :)

Looking back in that thread that's how I did the B3 to B4 upgrade !  LOL

For some reason I thought the RC1 thing would be different.

Cheers

The nightly builds from here https://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=558451.0

Are basically the latest version you can download from the SMF GitHub repo, they might be a few hours old each time you download them, and maybe a couple of commits behind. But it's as close as you'll get without actually downloading the zip directly from GitHub. It's just a convenient way to download it without having to mess around too much.

In each nightly build there is a file called last_commit_, using the link in that file you can compare the version you have downloaded, and what is current on GitHub.

Example: The current version I'm running on my test site https://cctestsite.info/testsite3/ is a few days old now, https://github.com/SimpleMachines/SMF2.1/compare/98d5cfd...release-2.1  When I first downloaded this nightly build it was up to date with the main repo. But you can now see it's a few commits behind.

Found another bug while I was making my previous post,

Lets add a link, https://cctestsite.info/testsite3/ a space and some more text. The link works fine.

Lets add a link, https://cctestsite.info/testsite3/  a double space and some more text. Now you can see it's added ; to the end of the url, and broken the link.

Just reported it here, https://github.com/SimpleMachines/SMF2.1/issues/5348

Bigguy

Glad it's reported. I never knew that one existed. :dk

I thought I was going a little crazier than normal, kept looking at my post wondering why my link to the GitHub compare repo wouldn't work, then noticed the ; kept appearing. I had add two spaces after the link. If you knock it back to one space it works.  I tried it on my test site and the same thing happens.

Mine is a few days old now, so this could well have been fixed already, but thought I'd better report it just in case.

Bigguy

I always use the editor or post my links:

https://www.whatsurbeef.net/index.php

Like this. They all seem to work. That's why I never noticed it.

lurkalot

They have fixed the issue with the links in the latest version, https://github.com/SimpleMachines/SMF2.1/issues/5348

Seems fine now.  ;)

Great to see all these bugs gettin squashed. :)

It is indeed.

Though a few minutes ago while fiddling around with 2.1, I foolishly turned on "Enable local storage of cookies" to see what happens.  Needless to say, I won't be doing that again in a hurry. lol..  :blsh
